Martial Art Journey:

Looking back, all I see is that I’ve been walking The Way for the longest time.

This journey began in 2004 when I was 9 years old and first started learning martial arts. Since then, I’ve trained and experienced countless martial arts and even studied different healing/energy systems.

Not only has this built up my martial and energy skills, but also changed me as a person and grown my mind, body & spirit. It makes me wonder whether martial arts was always supposed to have been my fate.

Martial Rank & Lineage

Ving Tsun:
Trained under Sifu Bertrand Lim at Singapore Ip Man Ving Tsun Kuen (SIM-VTK) since 2010 and have learnt the strategies of Ving Tsun, all its traditional forms and the pillars of SIM-VTK.

Have also been assisting with training and holding classes at SIM-VTK since 2014.

Received advanced training at Hong Kong Ving Tsun Athletic Association (VTAA) under Grandmaster Ip Ching (Recurring President at VTAA & younger son of the legendary Ip Man).

Taekwondo (WTF):
Achieved the rank of brown belt under the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) in Singapore by the young age of 11.

Taijiquan:
Learnt Huang Style Taijiquan under multiple masters at the Singapore Thai-Chi Society.

Also received training from multiple renowned Masters of the style such as:

Master Wee Kee Jin - Indoor & Live-In Disciple of Grandmaster Huang Sheng Shyan

Tuhon Mickael Dolou - Director at Pekiti Tirsia Tactical Association (PTTA)

Guro Jan Croeri - Instructor at PTTA & Founder of Pekiti Tirsia Kali Singapore

Others:
Also dabbled in other martial arts such as Jujitsu, Krav Maga, Kyushojitsu & also exchanged with practitioners from other styles such as Muay Thai, Silat, Kendo, etc.

Martial & Training Philosophy:
I believe that martial arts must be functional and should work in real situations. It is very important to train realistically and to incorporate training that works.

Having experienced both traditional & modern martial arts’ training methods, I see the beauty in both and utilizes the training that helps me to achieve both functional ability & technical finesse.

However, I believe that martial arts should also empower the practitioner to build a resilient character that is not afraid of challenges, pushes to overcome adversities and is always improving themselves while maintaining the highest level of martial virtue.

Energy Work

Qigong:
Learnt from multiple masters of different Qigong system:

Sifu Bertrand Lim - Chi Dynamics Qigong System which includes both Medical & Martial Qigong (e.g. Five Elements Qigong, Small Heaven Circle Meditation, Iron Shirt Qigong, etc)

Master Dennis Wang - Han Yang Ru Yi Gong System, different Qigong stretching methods & Fa Qi methods.

Grandmaster Tan Soo Kong - Wellness Medical Qigong System which includes both Self Healing & External Treatment Methods.

Biotherapy:
Learnt Biotherapy from Instructor Ivan Roca the Founder of the BioQR method. Was taught to use the Human BioEnergy to apply energy therapy treatment for over 70 diseases.

Longevitology:
Learnt Longevitology that uses Universal Energy to do Self Healing & External Healing to an intermediate level. Have also volunteered at the healing centres to provide healing sessions to the public for free.

Energy & Healing Philosophy:
The Energy systems is one of the most mysterious & misunderstood concepts left behind by the olden times. The practice of them has resulted in many unexplainable and miraculous phenomena.

As part of the Way & as a Martial Artist, compassion and the ability to help & heal has always been part of the journey. It is important to understand these systems to not only evolve but also to use them to help others.

As an Energy practitioner, I believe it’s important to understand the energy intricacies and learn how to practically help people with their methods. For getting into the energy mess is easy, but figuring it something out from it is not

Instructor Edward Ooi

Training since 2014. Disciplines- Wing Chun, Self Defence, Qigong Healing

Martial Arts Journey
With 23 years of relentless dedication, I have forged my path through two powerful disciplines: 12 years in Muay Thai (the "Art of Eight Limbs") and 11 years in Wing Chun (the science of close-quarters combat). My journey has been shaped by elite instructors, competitive experience, and a deep commitment to refining both body and mind. On tactical side I was trained in knives fighting/defense as well as sticks fighting techniques by Sifu Bertrand Lim. Additionally as a health conscious martial artist, I underwent qigong training and gained competency in Zhen Qi Yun Xing, Ba Duan Jin, Han Yang Ru Yi Gong and Longevitology.

Rank & Lineage
Muay Thai:

Trained under Alvin Seet (First Muay Thai, Singapore) and Master Johny (Hilltop Muay Thai, Singapore) (2003–2014)

Accredited by the Amateur Muaythai Association (Singapore)

Competed in Singapore’s local Muay Thai circuit, testing skills in the ring

Wing Chun:

Singapore Ip Man Ving Tsun Kuen (2014–2025) under Sifu Betrand Lim

Advanced training at the Hong Kong Ving Tsun Athletic Association under Grandmaster Ip Ching (son of the legendary Ip Man)

Training Philosophy
My approach blends:

Muay Thai’s raw power, endurance, and striking efficiency

Wing Chun’s precision, structure, and economy of movement

A focus on real-world self-defense, functional fitness, and technical mastery

I believe martial arts is not just about fighting—it’s about discipline, adaptability, and expressing skill in every action.

Instructor Hoong Yan

Training since 2017. Disciplines- Wing Chun, Self Defence, Qigong Healing

I have been learning Wing Chun with Sifu Bertrand for 8 years now. I believe my watching of martial arts movies with my dad since young has some influence on me. There is also an inherent sense of righteousness in me to learn martial arts not just to protect my family, but to stand up against bullies in society. I believe my self confidence has also been given a boost after picking up Wing Chun.

In 2022, I encountered a medical misadventure; I suffered a stroke that caused me to have difficulties in balancing and walking upright. Through recommendation by Sifu, I practised the techniques of longevitology (an energy healing method advocated by Sifu) since then and saw myself recovered back to 99% in terms of mobility. Through this episode, I truly see the importance of a holistic approach to maintaining our well-being and safety not just externally but also internally
